National Weather Service warns of a winter Storm in Chicago, USA

The Mideast city of Chicago, the state of Illinois and Indiana, welcomed the new year 2022, with a winter storm that hit the city on Saturday night, causing heavy snowfall that led the National Weather Service to issue a warning for the winter storm in the areas that is expected to last until Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service issued a warning for a winter storm in the city of Chicago and surrounding areas. Situated on the Mideast region in the map of the USA, the city of Chicago is the most populated in the USA.
The National Weather Service issued the warning late night on Saturday at around 11:00 P.M The warning for the winter storm will remain in effect till Sunday at 6:00 A.M.
The areas in northwest Indiana and northeast Illinois are also expected to experience heavy snowfall and cold winds.
The snowfall is expected to reach at least 6 to 7 inches thick. The National Weather Service also issued a hazardous weather outlook for different areas of northeast Illinois, north-central Illinois, and northwest Indiana. The National Weather Service has asked people to be cautious while driving as highways may get extremely slippery because of Ice and snowfall.
On Saturday southern areas of the city of Chicago experienced rain which gradually turned into thick snow marking the beginning of the storm in the city.
More than 200 salt trucks were deployed on Saturday evening to clear the snow from the roadways by the Chicago Department of Street and Sanitation.
The possibility of the storm hitting the areas in Central Plains, Mississippi Valley, and parts of Great Lakes is very likely, the weather experts are certain that the following Sunday storm can hit these areas and can be followed by the cold Arctic air.
The National Weather Service upgraded the storm watch to a winter storm warning on Saturday in areas of Boone, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, and other surrounding counties.
The affected areas are expected to have a snowfall of about 5 to 6 inches however, the areas near lakes such as Michigan lake and Great Lakes may experience heavier snowfall.
Winds were expected to blow at an average speed of 30 to 35 mph on Saturday night, resulting in the blowing snow and bad to poor visibility for the travelers.
The storm is expected to last until 6:00 A.M on Sunday, but the areas around the lakes will experience more cold weather and may even get one or two rounds of snowfall.
However, winds will continue to be gusty following Sunday morning and will keep the roads and outdoors difficult to travel through.
The city of Chicago has had winter storms, the worst being in the year 1967 when the city had 23-inch thick snow, but the recent storms come after a long haul and continue dry years.
Following the warning by the National Weather Service on Saturday the Chicago international and other airports saw the cancellation of more than 1000 flights.
In a tweet, the NWS later informed that at 7 A.M ON Sunday in most parts of northern Illinois, and northwest Indiana the conditions remained from poor to hazardous.
